Asadero Los Corrales

                                                                                                                    rsz asadero los corrales

Asadero Los Corrales delivers in so many ways! The Coachella Valley restaurant quietly sits as one of THE BEST Mexican eateries in the desert. Specializing in authentic homemade Sinaloa fare, with excellent service and lingering flavors, they will leave you wanting more!

One of two locations, their La Quinta spot sits off of Hwy 111, near Home Depot, the other off of Harrison St. in Coachella. The Coachella restaurant has been in business for over a decade, with their La Quinta established four years ago.

It is a seat yourself scenario at Asadero Los Corrales, which lends well to their casual dining room. The friendly server’s wave guests in encouraging you to seat yourself. After that, your table is greeted with chips and a little tray of salsa goodies. The restaurant offers a variety of beers (they make a mean Chavela) and an impressive selection of sodas, the cool kinds in glass bottles that you would find in Mexico, circa 1975.

Favorite dishes such as their Chicken Enchiladas and Shredded Beef Tacos, are both served with beans and rice. The beans are rich and velvety, and almost disintegrate in your mouth, and the rice is a perfect accompaniment, seasond lightly with corn kernels folded in. Their tacos have a different element, served with a small cradle of broth to put on the tacos. Delish!! Albeit a bit messy, it’s totally worth it, and that’s what napkins are for anyway. Right?

Other menu items include their Queso Fundido (melted Mexican cheese with chorizo, sliced avocado and tomato) and the Canoa de Camaron (refreshing Ceviche in a hollowed out cucumber), Wet Grilled Chicken Burrito with green or red sauce, or both, Torta’s, Chilaquiles, Bistec Ranchero, Chorizo con Huevo, Tamales, Sopa de Tortilla, Pozole and the list goes on.

The restaurant is opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is very reasonably priced. I must note that Asadero Los Corrales is not fast food by any means, they make everything to order, with meticulous detail in the preparations….so basically, the food takes time, but it is so very worth it.

Flor de Jalisco

                                                                                                                        rsz imag0268

Located in the Albertsons shopping center on 42nd and Washington, Flor de Jalisco offers up excellent homemade Mexican favorites at affordable prices, served up with genuine courteous service. The restaurant has a comfortable patio for outdoor dining and equaled seating inside. The open style kitchen allows for a customer viewing of food preparation, as well as direct aroma benefits.

The menu consists of Mexican first line recipes including Burritos, Tacos, Tortas, Enchiladas, Chorizo and Eggs (yes they serve breakfast) and Ceviche, just to shake the Maracas. With my almost disturbing love of pork, my favorite is the Carnitas Burrito, as well as the Al Pastor (marinated pork) and Chicken Asada (grilled chicken) tacos.

The Carnitas Burrito is doused perfectly with their flavorful green sauce, sprinkled with cotija cheese and served with rice and beans. The pork was cooked perfectly, and although the burrito has green sauce, it does not distract from the taste of the tender pork. It is excellent! The tacos are also well seasoned and served with beans and chips.

The restaurant gives options for a fast take out meal, or casual restaurant dining. They even offer cold beers to accent your experience. They are opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offer their breakfast items all day.

Flor de Jalisco is a great place to enjoy high quality, authentic Mexican dishes at moderate prices, served up by friendly hands. Flor de Jalisco it is quickly becoming a new found favorite of The Palm Springs Local, and once you try it, it’s sure to be one of yours too.

Taqueria Guerrero

Guerreros_Carnitas_TacosTaqueria Gurerrero is a hands down favorite for The Palm Springs Local. With 5 locations spread around the Coachella Valley, it is highly recommended for excellent homemade Mexican food. The restaurants are casual, with a laid back atmosphere, and the food packs a wallop of flavor. Try their Pork Carnitas in any form (tacos, burritos, or loose on a plate) it is wonderful! They also have serious traditional dishes such as Albondigas (meatball soup) and Pozole (stew with white corn), served on certain days of the week. The restaurant also has what is considered by The Palm Springs Local to be the best Chavelas in town (beer and Clamato with a spice/salt rimmed goblet). And if all that weren’t enough, the prices are extremely reasonable, with soft tacos for only $1.29!
