Mama Gina

Mama_Gina

Mamma Gina is one of the longest standing restaurants in Palm Desert, with a favorable reputation for fine Italian dining. Dishes such as Linguine ai gamberi piccanti (homemade linguini with shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce), Saltimbocca alla Romana (sautéed veal with prosciutto, sage and white wine reduction), and Cannelloni alla Fiorentina (baked homemade crepes stuffed with fresh ricotta cheese and spinach) set the stage for a memorable culinary experience. For something different, try their lively Enoteca Bar for Happy Hour with drink and menu specials.

Piero’s PizzaVino

Pizza-Pizzavino

Ah Pizza, old world comfort food. It’s hard to imagine anyone not enjoying (althoughI’m sure they exist) that gooey goodness of hot cheeses, meats, mushrooms and all kinds of other toppings, set lovingly on perfectly cooked pizza dough. Pizza is one of those European inspired foods that as Americans we have embraced and in many ways made our own. But there is a new place in town that holds true to its’ old world tradition and is reaping the benefits from it. Piero Pierattoni, owner of long standing Ristorante Mama Gina in Palm Desert, has opened his new venture Piero’s Pizza Vino just across the street on El Paseo with classic Napolitano style Pizza and other Italian specialties. The Pizza gets special attention as it is cooked in an imported oven straight from Naples itself, assuring the Pizza will be cooked to perfection in about 2 minutes. Take that Dominos! My personal favorites are the Funghi e Burrata (tomato, mushroom medley w/Burrata cheese) withadded sausage, and the Quattro Fromaggi (Gorgonzola, Parmesan, Mozzarella, Taleggio) w/rawhoney. Also, the Asparagus wrapped w/Pancetta, and Fried baby Artichokes w/ Goat cheese are fantastic appetizers. The bar is cozy and lovely to share an intimate bite with friends or your special Pizza partner. Come check out this new found Palm Springs Local favorite, and taste what Pizza was meant to be. Ciao!

Trattoria Tiramisu

Tiramisu

Dining at Trattoria Tiramisu in Palm Desert, is like being transported to a charming Italian restaurant in Italy. The warm and romantic dining space with thick accented Italian waiters, only add to the fantastic Sicilian style dishes that the restaurant provides. Items such as their Calamari alla Griglia ( grilled calamari with arugula, red onions and tomatoes) and Papparelle alla Bolognese ( papparelle pasta with veal ragu) highlight the freshness of their ingredients. And of course, your meal would not be a complete experience without indulging in their namesake dessert, which dissolves ever so effortlessly in your mouth.

Castelli's

Before my father opened his own restaurant, he worked for a long time at The Arches in Newport Beach. I remember visiting him there at work when I was a child. The masculine décor with wood panels, well dressed waiters and New York feel, still are vibrant in my mind. And when I visit Castelli’s in Palm Desert, the fond memories really come back, for the Palm Desert staple in its’ 24th season, possesses that old school feel of what dinning out once was, and at Castelli’s still is. Upon entering Castelli’s, you’ll find the bar sits center stage, holding court with its famed ample martinis and attentive bartenders. But the star at this Palm Springs Local favorite is undeniably their food. Specialties such as their Ravioli Aragosta (Lobster Ravioli) with a vodka gorgonzola cream sauce or their Castelli’s Pork Chops with a sherry wine glaze and fresh baked apples only scratch the surface of the exceptional food at Castelli’s. Fabulous food, great martinis and a classic dining environment, will have you coming back for more, time and time again.
