The Red Barn

The stand out red gable roof building with white trim in Palm Desert is hard to miss. The Red Barn is the deserts oldest dive bar, and sits proudly off Hwy 111, just down the street from swanky El Paseo...quite the dicotomy.

The famous and infamous bar has been in existence for over 50 years, and has held strong in the world of desert nightlife. Gone are the velvet drapes and red booths that once graced The Red Barns interior in days past, now replaced with a more casual style, more accomodating to the "Barns" ( a local moniker) unpredictable clientele who frequent the popular spot. Everyone from the wealthy to the hard working middle class, to bikers, rockers and the beautiful mix and mingle at this legendary watering hole.

The "Barn" offers up live rock music, pool, a limited bar food menu and amply sized inexpensive drinks. A visit to the "Barn" is a must for tourists looking for a funky, fun, free spirited goodtime and usually on the bar crawling list for party bound locals, and on occasion, a Palm Springs Local haunt.

The Hood Bar

At first glance, it would be hard to suspect that the dark gray windowless building off a frontage road in Palm Desert would produce one of the Coachella Valleys best pizza, but alas, it's true! Never jugde a pizza by it's building.

The Hood Bar is the deserts go to joint for live edgy music, pool and off the chart pizza. Their N.Y. style pie is prepared with a variety of toppings and perfectly cooked crust, certainly up to par with the most snobbish of crust connoisseurs. Hood patrons can make up their own creation or choose from fan favorites such as the O.G. Combo (pepperoni, sausage, red onion, black olives, green peppers and mushrooms), the carboholics dream Spud Pie (sliced potato, cheddar, mozzerella and bacon) or The Palm Springs Locals favorite, the Sweet and Spicy (pepperoni, pineapple and jalepenos)....spicy goodness!

The Hoods menu offers up other awesome items including Killer Nachos, which is a ridiculously huge tray of cheesy delite and Killer Tots, not a group of angry ankle biters, but rather potato barrels topped with cheddar cheese and bacon bits. Ample salads and sandwiches also dot The Hoods menu.

The Hood Bar is priced right with pizza slices for only $5.50 (honestly big enough for two modestly hungry people to share). Drinks specials are offered on different days with even $1 beer day on Mondays (PBR and Rolling Rock).

Serving their menu until 1:30 am is an added bonus at The Hood Bar, which is great news for those who desire some pizza with their Rock-N-Roll.
