19th Annual PS Short Film Fest

The 19th Annual Palm Springs International Short Film Festival starts reeling them in on Tuesday, June 18th through June 24th at the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs. The long lasting Short Film Fest is in its 19th year and will showcase over 300 films from 30 plus countries in genres ranging from laugh out loud comedy, to tear jerking dramas and scare you straight horror flicks.

A unique aspect of the PS Short Film Fest is their addition of the Short Film Market, which allows over 3,000 film from their library to be available to film buyers and is the only one of its kind in North America.

The Tuesday night kickoff offers up laughs with the opening film, "Laughing Matters" at 6:30pm. The film is followed up with a reception filled with schmoozing and potential boozing at the downtown Palm Springs hotspot, Lulus California Bistro on Palm Canyon.

Coachella Valley Womens Business Center Networking Event

The Coachella Valley Women's Business Center is holding their networking event, "Three Affordable Keys to Marketing Success" on Thursday, December 6th at ShareKitchen in Cathedral City. The CVWBC along with ShareKitchen will be presenting the event. ShareKithcen is a non-profit culinary community serving the Coachella Valley, assisting food-based entrepreneurs with their manufacturing goals ( find out more about ShareKitchen at www.sharekitchen.org).

The event will feature Suzan M. Chin, who will speak about "The Three Keys to Affordable Marketing Success", which will include:On-line Marketing/Social Media, Building Your Business Through Strategic Networking and Utilizing Publicity and Public Relations to Build Your Business.

The event is from 5:30-7:30 and will be offering refreshments, registration is $10 on-line at cvwbc.org.

The CVWBC has been a CVWBC_Logo-intricate part in assisting small businesses succeed in the Coachella Valley since they opened in 2006 and is a wonderful resource for anyone (men too) who want to see their business thrive.

The Tolerance Education Center Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Tolerance_logoAt 5pm on Thursday October 4th, in observance of Hispanic Heritage month (September 15-October 15), The Tolerance Education Center in Rancho Mirage opens the Para Todos Los Ninos: Fighting Segregation Before Brown exhibit. The exhibit highlights the ground breaking story of Mendez v. Westminster. The landmark case is about the Mendez family and how they fought against the the segregation policies that were running rampant in California in the 1940s...and some ways continue today. When their children were denied entrance into a predominantly white school in Westminster, the Mendez family took action, almost a decade before the Brown v. Education case. The opening of the exhibit will be enhanced by the showing of the 2003 documentary , Mendez vs. Westminster:For All the Children/Para Todos los Ninos, written, produced and directed by Sandra Robbie, who will be in attendance to show her film. The Tolerance Education is dedicated to educating the public about the intolerance that has plagued our history, in hopes that it is not repeated in the future. The Para Todos Los Ninos: Fighting Segregation Before Brown is a Simon Wiesenthal Center and Museum of Tolerance Exibit, presented in partnership with the Levine Museum of the New South. Coyote Stageworks Fourth Season

Coyote Stageworks is gearing up for their fourth season, and it promises to be better than ever! The non-profit production company started back in 2009, headed up by Chuck Yates, Larry Raben, David Engel, Allan Denny, Steve Carter and Michael Soloman. All the founders have theatre backgrounds, and felt that there was a void in the Palm Springs area for professional equity theatre, so they started one. The production company has come a long way since their first performance at the Thorny Theatre, and now have a run at The Annenberg Theatre in Palm Springs. The first show will be the Tony Award nominated, SOUVENIR, a comedy by Stephen Temperley. The show opens November 23rd through December 2nd, just in time for the holiday season.

SOUVENIR is followed up by Coyote Stageworks first ever One-Night-Only Gala Benefit on January 19th 2013, featuring a staged reading of the fabulously funny, THE WOMEN by Clare Booth Luce. The benefit is sponsored by Wells Fargo and has a star studded cast including, Lucie Arnaz, Kaye Ballard,Nancy Bleiweiss-Nevil, Mary Jo Catlett, Carole Cook, Mo Gaffney, Beth Grant, Michele Lee,Lorna Luft, Stephanie Powers and Charles Busch..plus some surprise participants!

February rolls in with SUDS-THE ROCKING 60's MUSICAL, By Melinda Gulb, Steve Gunderson and Bryan Scott, with musical arrangements provided  by Steve Gunderson. The show opens on February 7th through the 17th.

On March 10th, Coyote Stageworks kicks off their "PLAY DATES" series, a FREE community and educational outreach series co-sponsored by The Palm Springs Art Museum and The Annenberg Theatre. The show is presented by Laurence Luckinbill, with his reading of the critically acclaimed, one-man play, CLARENCE DARROW TONIGHT!

Coyote Stageworks closes out their 2012/2013 season with the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award Winner, TRU, by Jay Presson Allen. An in-depth look into the mind of Truman Capote. The production runs from April 18th through the 28th.
